Summer Equinox 2020!
June 20, 2020 @ 8pm I will be sharing powerful stories of reclaiming ownership of my body on my own terms.
For far too long the bodies of my ancestors have been used for the pleasure and economic advancement of others. They were owned by others who saw them as less than human. They were denied simple pleasures of life. In this time of massive protest fighting the disregard for black life lets remember the power, control, and fulfillment of our pleasure. I hope you will attend my livestream. Tickets on sale now.

Dancing Ci(y)phers: Hip Hop's Embodied Expression (of Resilience) As a two-day long symposium and workshop offering, Dancing Ci(y)phers: Hip Hop's Embodied Expression (of Resilience) will bring together dance communities interested in hip hop and other African American social dance. The event will delve into hip hop dance’s history, culture, and the scholarship around its global impact and ancestral connections to specific African dance traditions. Panel discussions and master classes led by distinguished dance artists—Oakland natives Traci Bartlow and Darrin Hodges, Richmond natives, Jamar Welch and Latanya d. Tigner, NYC natives, Ejoe Wilson and Buddah Stretch-- will give participants a glimpse of the cultural and socio-political-economic landscape from vernacular jazz, Lindy Hop, Hip Hop, House, Boogaloo, and the Motown style emerged regionally in African American communities. Participants will also learn the origin and purpose of the African dances to which these forms have connections. The day will conclude with a workshop in African Dance Presence in Hip Hop open cy(i)pher. Note: Participants must attend the panel discussion in order to take the dance classes. |
